The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that the sale of application forms for the 2025 Direct Entry (DE) admission process will commence on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. This follows the conclusion of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, which closed on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The announcement was made by JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, who emphasized that the registration process will be closely monitored to ensure adherence to all guidelines.

JAMB 2025 UTME Registration Figures

JAMB disclosed that a total of 2,030,627 candidates registered for the 2025 UTME. Additionally, 200,115 candidates participated in the Mock-UTME, while 630 candidates applied for the trial mock examination.

Key Information on Direct Entry (DE) Registration

The Direct Entry (DE) application is specifically designed for candidates who already possess higher academic qualifications beyond the secondary school level and seek direct admission into the second year of a university program. This category includes candidates with:

  • Diplomas from polytechnics
  • National Certificates of Education (NCE) from colleges of education
  • University degrees
  • A-Level certificates from recognized examination bodies

JAMB has emphasized that the registration process will be strictly monitored to ensure compliance with admission guidelines. All applications must be submitted exclusively through JAMB Professional Registration Centres (PRC), and any attempt to falsify credentials will attract severe penalties.

“A special committee will verify all submitted Advanced Level qualifications, and any fraudulent results will lead to prosecution,” JAMB stated.

Additionally, tertiary institutions have been urged to verify candidates’ certificates before granting them admission to prevent irregularities in the process.

Understanding JAMB’s Role in Nigeria’s Tertiary Education

Established in 1978, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) serves as Nigeria’s central body for coordinating admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

JAMB conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions and oversees the Direct Entry (DE) process for candidates with advanced qualifications.

The board plays a crucial role in:
✔ Regulating admission policies in line with national education standards
Verifying candidates’ credentials to prevent admission fraud
Implementing Computer-Based Testing (CBT), which has replaced the traditional paper-based exams to enhance security, efficiency, and result processing speed

It is important to note that the National Identification Number (NIN) remains mandatory for UTME registration, with strict data verification measures in place.

Next Steps for Prospective Direct Entry Candidates

Candidates eligible for Direct Entry (DE) admission are advised to prepare their academic credentials and register through approved JAMB centers to avoid complications.

JAMB has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for fraud, warning that institutions and applicants must adhere to all stipulated requirements.
