Obi Can Defeat Tinubu Without PDP-Atiku Alliance – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has firmly stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, does not require any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or backing from prominent politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

In an exclusive interview, Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, emphasized Obi’s popularity and credibility, asserting that he remains a strong contender capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in a truly free and fair election.

Ndubuaku dismissed recent speculations about Obi potentially returning to the PDP, labeling the party as “crisis-ridden and nearly empty.”

“Peter Obi doesn’t need any coalition to win the 2027 presidential election,” he said. “He’s a sellable candidate. If you recall, he was already on track to win in 2023 before the controversial disruptions. He even won in Tinubu’s stronghold of Lagos, which clearly indicates that Nigerians are ready for him to lead.”

The NLC’s position underscores growing confidence in Obi’s standalone appeal and signals a continued push for independent political alternatives in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.

“For as long as INEC conducts a free and fair election, he will win. He can also leverage his local and international connections to make it happen,” Ndubuaku added.

His comments come just days after the Obidients Movement declared unwavering support for Obi, regardless of the platform he chooses to run on in 2027.

The National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has stressed that Nigeria is in urgent need of a turnaround, asserting that Peter Obi remains the only candidate with the capacity to steer the nation out of its ongoing economic crisis.
